This will explain how I enabled deep sleep to be used on the Wemos D1 Battery Shield. There was very little information available on this device, so I will outline the relatively simple process below.
As per the image above, remove the blue led directly above the Wi-Fi symbol. Once done, solder a wire between the RST pushbutton leg and GPIO16 of the WROOM02 ESP module.
In order for the WROOM02 to wake from deep sleep, GPIO16 must be tied to RST.
