This page will guide you through first time setup of your Bindicator, and adding it to Home Assistant.
WLED
- Plug your Bindicator into your PC via USB.
- Go to https://install.wled.me/
- Click “Install” and choose your COM port from the list.
- Once Installed, the setup will prompt you to connect to Wi-Fi.
- Once connected to Wi-Fi, a new WLED integration should show up in Home assistant, If it does not, manually add it via the WLED integration by entering the IP address
The bindicator specific WLED settings are Number of LEDS: 1 and LED GPIO is GPIO4 or GPIO16.
ESPhome
- Plug your bindicator into your PC via USB
- Go to https://web.esphome.io
- Click “Connect” and choose your COM port from the list.
- Select “Prepare for First Time Use”
- Once installed, connect to your Wi-Fi network.
- Go to the ESPhome integration in Homeassistant, there should now be 1 new discovered device. Click “Take Control”
Troubleshooting
My device does not show up in the list of devices when attempting to install WLED or ESPhome
If your your bindicator does not show as a comm port when using WebSerial there are a few things to try. First, make sure you are using either Chrome and Edge. Not all browsers support WebSerial.
Try another USB cable.
If its still failing, hold down the RESET button on your bindicator when plugging in the USB cable.
Can I disable the on-board LED on the esp32?
Yes, to disable the LED, you need to physically remove it. Use a small screwdriver to break the LED as shown in the image below. Ensure power is not connected when doing so.
What GPIO is the LED connected to?
The LED is connected to GPIO4 or GPIO16. For WLED, set the LED GPIO to 4 or 16 and set the number of LEDs to 1 in the WLED settings.
